

Provides electric, gas, and water services to Memphis and surrounding areas.
The Engineer 2, reporting to the Supervisor, applies established engineering principles to design, plan, and improve electric, gas, and water distribution facilities. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing drawings, specifications, and cost estimates, providing technical assistance to consultants and contractors, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. The role also requires performing computer analyses, testing equipment, evaluating new products, and recommending corrective actions for system malfunctions. Coordination with other divisions, government agencies, and contractors, as well as conducting field trips to collect data and inspect construction, is essential. The Engineer stays current with engineering codes and maintains an industry literature library.
The Engineer 2 role requires the appropriate education, experience, and professional competencies as defined by the department, and the ability to obtain required certifications and licenses.
The position involves primarily sedentary work with occasional standing or walking, and may require exerting up to 10 pounds of force regularly.
