The Terminal Manager will lead a multidisciplinary team including operations supervisors, maintenance personnel, customer service representatives, accounting staff, and engineering support. This position also collaborates closely with commercial and finance teams to achieve terminal objectives and maintain operational excellence.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance revenue and reduce costs.
  • Ensure all terminal operations are conducted in a safe, environmentally compliant manner that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
  • Participate in regional and corporate initiatives to standardize and improve operational practices.
  • Investigate and follow up on incidents to ensure resolution and continuous improvement.
  • Promote and reinforce Kinder Morgan’s safety culture across all levels of the organization.
  • Provide 24/7 response to terminal activities as needed.
  • Oversee employee training programs to support onboarding and ongoing development.
  • Direct maintenance, engineering, and support teams to ensure optimal terminal performance.
  • Manage financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting activities.
  • Drive operational efficiency and cost control to meet budget targets and maintain profitability.
  • Lead and develop supervisory staff to ensure safe and efficient handling of bulk commodities via marine, rail, and truck.
  • Serve as a key liaison between customers and the commercial department to support business growth and retention.
  • Monitor and control overtime and other operational expenses.

Kinder Morgan is seeking a dynamic and experienced Terminal Manager to lead and oversee bulk terminal operations, with a primary focus on coal export activities at our Pier IX/X facility in Newport News, Virginia. This role serves as a strategic business leader, risk manager, and employee motivator, responsible for all facets of terminal operations including safety, maintenance, customer relations, financial performance, and regulatory compliance.

  • Ability to maintain focus and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Must be able to wear standard personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements including DOT, USCG, FRA, FDA, DPPC, TPCA, CGMP, etc.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing bulk terminal operations.
  • Exceptional organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Experience managing multimillion-dollar budgets.
  • Physical ability to navigate terminal environments, including stairs, ladders, uneven surfaces, and lifting/carrying loads.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead safety initiatives and foster a safety-first culture.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as required.
  • Proven leadership experience managing both departmental managers and hourly employees.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving and team collaboration.
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Strong background in vessel operations, stevedoring, and warehousing.
  • Ability to troubleshoot operational issues related to mobile equipment, cranes, and other heavy machinery.
