Terminal Operator

Description

The Terminal Operator is responsible for operating equipment to load and unload cement, taking and tracking customer orders, monitoring inventory, generating reports, and performing maintenance activities on the equipment.

• Load and unload cement using rail car mover, front‑end loader, and computer systems safely and efficiently.
• Take customer orders over the phone accurately and courteously.
• Manually track inventory and produce required reports.
• Perform preventative and regular equipment maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and maintain accurate records.
• Keep the terminal and associated buildings clean.
• Follow CalPortland and WorkSafe safety rules and procedures.
• Complete daily checks on all received and shipped tickets.
• Communicate professionally with co‑workers, customers, and other stakeholders.
• Apply mechanical knowledge for oil changes, equipment inspections, belt alignments, and preventive maintenance.

Requirements

The role requires a high school diploma or GED; a bachelor's degree is preferred. Candidates must pass a pre‑employment physical, drug/alcohol screening, and background check, with some positions subject to ongoing FMCSA‑regulated testing.

• Use computer applications such as Excel, Word, SAP, and HMI systems.
• Communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
• Meet physical requirements including climbing, stooping, bending, and lifting up to 50 lb.
• Work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Preferred: possess welding skills.
