

Provides electric, gas, and water services to Memphis and surrounding areas.
Essential functions include gathering and organizing data for departmental projects and reports, handling project assignments, research, and analysis, and responding to questions with appropriate written communications. Students will observe subject matter experts, receive training on various tasks, diagnose drivability, electrical, and mechanical issues on Division equipment and vehicles, and perform minor repairs. They must prepare daily paperwork related to their job and adhere to all safety rules and practices.
The role may involve assistance in writing reports or evaluations, applying mathematical techniques of operational analysis and simulation to solve systems design, resource allocation, and information analysis problems, and recommending methods or performance standards for system development, programming, operations support, workload planning, and production reporting. Additional duties and responsibilities will be assigned as required.
Memphis Light, Gas, and Water is seeking Cooperative Education Students (Co‑Op Student) to perform technical duties and receive training across various departments in the Division. Co‑Op students may rotate among Information Technology, Engineering, and Mechanical areas, including electric, gas, and water departments. They typically alternate between work and school for three to six semesters, gaining hands‑on experience on challenging projects, networking with professionals, and learning from experts in the utility industry. Delegated duties and responsibilities will vary by assignment.
Applicants must hold a valid driver’s license or state identification card. They must be full‑time students enrolled in a college, university, or a TCAT Auto Mechanic program, with majors considered based on departmental needs such as Business Administration, Information Systems, Engineering, Law, or related fields.
A completed first year of college is required (law clerk applicants must be in their second or third year), with a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. For mechanics, three completed trimesters of the TCAT Mechanics program are also required.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. full‑time without restriction during the Co‑Op internship and possess strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical and mathematical abilities, and the capacity to work independently. Physical demands may include sedentary work, standing or walking for long periods, lifting 20‑50 lb regularly, and operating office equipment with dexterity.
