The Director of Purchasing leads the company’s procurement and vendor strategy. This role owns the full lifecycle of direct construction subcontracts—including bidding, negotiating, contracting, and securing the vendors and subcontractors needed to meet AMH’s construction goals.
Key duties include developing and communicating procurement strategies, analyzing market conditions, issuing purchase orders, reviewing contracts for compliance, and executing negotiation plans for price, delivery, and timing. The director also supervises bid package preparation, negotiates with subcontractors, manages vendor escalations, ensures rebate processing, and monitors contract compliance.
The leader manages a purchasing team, providing coaching, performance feedback, and hiring for new positions. Responsibilities extend to bid analysis, trade‑partner pre‑qualification, pre‑construction meetings, budget reviews, material takeoff validation, and cost‑saving initiatives across the community‑development lifecycle.
Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree (preferred in business, finance, engineering, building science, or construction management), at least four years of purchasing or procurement experience, four years of budget management, three years of supervisory experience, a valid driver’s license, and strong knowledge of residential construction. Advanced Excel skills, excellent communication, leadership, negotiation, and problem‑solving abilities are essential.

The position offers a salary range of $96,745 to $133,025 annually, quarterly bonus eligibility, and a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision coverage, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) matching, an employee stock purchase plan, tuition reimbursement, paid holidays, and accrued PTO.
