Main Component Exchange Technician (MCE) - Travel

Description

Main Component Exchange (MCE) Technicians specialize in large correctives, safely executing main component exchanges and uptower repair services on wind turbines as directed by the Project Manager or MCE Lead. They carry out tasks such as cleaning, organizing, disassembly and assembly of large turbine components, and may assist in dismantling, erecting, aligning, adjusting, and maintaining machinery according to manuals and drawings. Technicians are assigned to multiple projects over a rotation period and travel to remote client sites as required.

MCE Technicians perform large component exchanges on wind turbine generators, repair or replace mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components, conduct routine equipment maintenance, and lead or assist daily site operations with minimal supervision.

• Perform large component exchanges on wind turbine generators (blades, gearboxes, generators, main bearings, etc.).
• Execute contractual obligations across electrical, mechanical, and balance‑of‑plant equipment on site.
• Repair or replace mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components to correct malfunctions.
• Conduct routine equipment maintenance such as cleaning, greasing, and lubrication.
• Lead or assist daily site work activities with minimal supervision.
• Coordinate with engineering support for troubleshooting and diagnostics.
• Complete and maintain required documentation using computer‑based service reporting tools.
• Clean and organize tools, equipment, and work area, handling oil, grease, and solvent spills safely.
• Operate motor vehicles safely and legally in accordance with company policies and insurance requirements.
• Maintain required certifications (OSHA 10, NFPA 70E, GWO BST/BTT/ART, CPR/AED‑First Aid).
• Perform torqueing and tensioning of bolted connections per installation manuals and specifications.
• Test electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems and components.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical malfunctions.
• Perform crane calling procedures.
• Read and interpret safety regulations, assembly/disassembly instructions, and technical manuals.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a High School Diploma or GED, have at least three years of wind industry experience, and be able to read and interpret technical documents. Strong organizational, communication, and technical leadership skills are required, along with the physical ability to work at heights, lift heavy equipment, and operate in confined spaces and varying schedules.

• Hold a High School Diploma or GED.
• Possess at least 3 years of wind industry experience.
• Experience with wind farm operations, maintenance, installation, and heavy‑lift component exchanges.
• Demonstrate strong organizational and multitasking abilities in changing‑priority environments.
• Use intermediate computer skills and technology applications effectively.
• Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Show technical and team leadership capabilities.
• Maintain a positive attitude and physical capability to perform demanding tasks at heights.
• Willingness to work in confined spaces, overtime, and holidays.
• Ability to climb turbines up to approximately 300 feet and lift equipment over 50 lb (weight compliance 120–280 lb).
