Senior Correctional Officer

Description

The Senior Correctional Officer assists in supervising administrative and operational security activities within a correctional facility, directly overseeing assigned Correctional Officers and ensuring protection of each inmate’s legal rights.

Key duties include providing general supervision of officers and inmates during shift duties, conducting inspections of housing and common areas to verify compliance with security, health, safety, sanitation, and welfare standards, and directing staff and inmate resources to correct identified problems. The officer also supervises internal and external facility security, routinely inspecting posts to assess personnel alertness and confirm that security is consistently maintained.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Two years experience in a criminal justice field, preferably with one year in a supervisory capacity
• Additional education may substitute for experience on a year‑for‑year basis
• Completion of basic pre‑service officer training; non‑commissioned security officer license may be required by state
• Valid driver's license
• Minimum age of 21 years
