Vegetation Management & Restoration Ecology Intern

• Plant native trees, shrubs, grasses, and install erosion control materials
• Meet on-site at designated Cook County locations
• Operate tools and machinery for stewardship activities
• Assist with tree and brush removal, chipping, and burning
• Apply herbicide using backpack sprayers to control invasive species

• Willing to obtain the Illinois Pesticide Operator License (required)
• Basic plant ID skills preferred, but not required
• Pursuing or holding a degree in ecology, environmental science, or related field
• Comfortable working around insects, wildlife, and poisonous plants
• Physically able to lift 30+ lbs and work outdoors in various conditions
• Willingness to obtain S-130 Burn Certification (preferred)

Join a hands-on internship focused on reestablishing, rehabilitating, and restoring native ecosystems throughout the Forest Preserves of Cook County. Interns will work alongside restoration professionals to manage invasive species, support native plantings, and gain experience across a variety of habitats and terrains.
