Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Assist with detailed design tasks for low to extra-high-voltage substations, including: one-line diagrams, control and relaying schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation layout.
Assist design engineers with physical and protection/control design efforts for electric utility substations.
Work under the guidance of experienced engineers on utility substation design projects.
Perform design calculations per industry standards (IEEE, NEC, NESC, etc.).
Complete training on assigned tasks.
Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
Support senior engineers with QA/QC design checks.

Actively enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Renewable Energy Engineering, or related, Undergraduate or Graduate program with an anticipated graduation date of September 2026 or later.
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Prior internship and/or related engineering experience is a plus.
Familiarity with design, drafting or engineering software such as MATHCAD, SOLIDWORKS, AUTOCAD, etc. as well as Microsoft Excel is beneficial.
Demonstrated interest in consulting engineering and the electric utility industry,or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
Must be 18 or older.
Successful completion of junior-level courses in power system analysis and/or power system protection.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Students who have passed or are scheduled to take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam will be strongly considered for this position.
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
