Serving as the bridge between customers, engineering, operations, and commercial teams, this position is responsible for defining technical delivery strategies, developing scalable execution standards, and ensuring world-class customer satisfaction through reliable, high-quality installations. The Director also plays a strategic role in shaping Hyliion’s future project delivery capabilities and guiding the technical roadmap to align with emerging market and customer needs. This role will work closely with engineering, sales, channel, and supplier partners to help bring the most cost effective and reliable technical solutions to meet customer needs and inform our product needs of the future. This role involves the ability to work as a leader with direct reports(s) and also independently as a hands-on individual contributor, and to flex according to business needs.
Job PurposeThe Director, Project Engineering & Delivery leads the end-to-end design, engineering, and execution of customer projects integrating the KARNO™ Power Module across distributed generation applications. This role ensures successful delivery of turnkey energy solutions—encompassing system design, engineering integration, vendor management, contractual oversight, procurement, and site commissioning—while maintaining cost, schedule, and performance excellence.
- As Hyliion scales up, build and mentor a high-performance project delivery and application team comprising of project engineers, program managers, and technical specialists.
- Maintain deep knowledge of distributed energy systems, including microgrids, hybrid generation, and energy storage.
- Lead and execute project engineering, system integration, and performance validation for KARNO-based energy systems at customer sites.
- Manage subcontractors, suppliers, and channel partners to ensure delivery quality and adherence to specifications.
- Provide technical oversight on proposals and RFP responses for complex, multi-site or high-value projects.
- Develops and compiles techno-commercial responses (detailed project specification analysis, lead pricing development, construction estimating / subcontractor scope of work and engaging third party vendors) for associated balance of plant equipment in response to RFPs/ RFQs, customer and project.
- Act as the key technical point of contact for major customer projects and strategic partnerships.
- Drive continuous improvement in project engineering design, QA/QC, and execution efficiency.
- Build and manage excellent relationships with customer engineering teams, consulting specifying engineers and be the lead person in responding to technical inquiries.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and technical innovation
- Ensure seamless coordination between design and field teams to deliver projects that meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Support field teams in resolving complex installation or operational challenges.
- Support business development activities through solution presentations, value engineering, and lifecycle cost analyses.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and permitting (NFPA, IEEE, NEC, UL, EPA, CARB DG, etc.).
- Direct all aspects of energy solutions project lifecycle management—from proposal through commissioning and turnover.

- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or civil Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Ability to mentor, coach, and inspire cross-functional technical teams.
- Demonstrated understanding of industry standards and safety practices.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- PMP or equivalent project management certification preferred.
- Experience with natural gas, hydrogen, renewable fuels, or waste-gas systems strongly preferred.
- This is a salaried, exempt-level position. This position typically works in an office environment; and given the nature of our business is also exposed to operations/warehouses/production environments.
- Ability to travel frequently, approximately 25-40% of the time.
- Understands basic industry standards and codes such as NEMA, NFPA, IEC, IEEE, UL, etc.
- Proven financial acumen in project cost control, forecasting, and contract management.
- Strong knowledge of power system design, distributed generation, and microgrid integration.
- 15+ years of experience in power generation, distributed energy systems, or EPC project delivery, including large-scale commercial/industrial or microgrid applications.
- Proven track record in leading multi-disciplinary technical teams and delivering complex energy projects on time and within budget.
