The Role

Overview

Install, maintain, and repair water distribution system pipelines and equipment

Tasks

-Uses various hand tools and other types of equipment necessary for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the T&D system. Mixes and pours concrete, repairs damage to roads caused by excavations or escaping water from main breaks and leaks. Performs miscellaneous building care and routine maintenance at any company building or property. -Installs, operates, and maintains all types and sizes of pipe or main and appurtenances. Makes taps. Performs fire hydrant flow test. Investigates leaks, does leak surveys, and tests for turbidity and chlorine. Removes and sets water meters. -Operates all types of vehicles including those requiring a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a tanker endorsement. Keeps vehicles clean and assists in keeping the vehicles in good work order. Cleans tools and equipment as necessary. Loads and delivers all types of construction and maintenance materials to work locations. Unloads freight cars and vendors' trucks. -Makes or assists in making all types of pipeline connections or joints and assists in making welded type joints. -Assists with material storage and storehouse duties. Fills out necessary job report forms, as required. Operates communication equipment. Collects water samples and delivers to the laboratory. -Participates in the investigation, construction, replacement, and repair of various types and sizes of water pipe and appurtenances that are or become a part of the Transmission (T) and Distribution (D) system. -Participates in the general operation, construction, and maintenance of the T&D system, which involves providing assistance or performing the installation, laying, or joining together of all sizes and types of pipelines and mains, fittings, valves, pumps, and other appurtenances. -Maintains storeyards and materials in an orderly fashion. Renovates salvaged materials. If a vehicle is assigned, ensures that the vehicle is kept stocked with necessary materials, tools, and equipment. Keeps vehicle, tools, and equipment clean and secure. Makes or assists in making measurements on the job. Adheres to OSHA standards, other applicable regulations, and company policies and procedures.

-Physically able to do job duties and adept in the use of tools and equipment and various vehicles used in performance of duties. -Dependable, conscientious, and thorough in all work and have the proper regard for the use of time, materials, tools, and equipment. -Able to read and write, have legible handwriting, and able to fill out daily record logs. -Able to learn, apply, and use new procedures, techniques, and technologies to include operation of new tools, equipment, or vehicles. -H.S. Diploma or GED required. -Knowledge of the usage of distribution maps and construction plans in any format and how to locate the various distribution system pipes, appurtenances, and services. -CDL Class A license with the appropriate endorsements and must meet all DOT requirements.
