This entry‑level position performs minor servicing and repairs on various equipment under senior mechanic supervision, following manufacturer guidelines and company schedules. Responsibilities include routine preventive maintenance such as oil changes and tune‑ups, diagnosing mechanical problems visually or with computer tools, and maintaining accurate records of time, materials, and repairs. The mechanic also conducts safety inspections, tracks work in computer software, and adheres to DOT, EPA, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements while attending training programs and maintaining regular attendance.
As a Fleet Mechanic I with MYR Group, you will perform maintenance, preventive maintenance, and minor equipment repairs safely and professionally. The position offers opportunities for growth into higher‑level roles within the Fleet Department and requires providing exceptional internal customer service. The role is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and requires signing IBEW 1393 union membership.
Candidates must have completed a vocational or technical school program or apprenticeship in vehicle/equipment repair, or possess at least one year of experience in heavy‑truck, automotive, or equipment repair; relevant trade‑school time may count toward this requirement. Applicants must be able to operate company vehicles, hold appropriate licensing, be at least 18 years old, and a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not mandatory.
Successful mechanics are reliable, possess a strong work ethic, and work well in teams. They must communicate effectively, read work orders, enter accurate daily logs, and have basic computer or data‑entry skills. Proficiency with mechanical tools, testing equipment, and a working knowledge of vehicle and equipment design, adjustment, operation, maintenance, and repair is required, along with adherence to safety rules and an understanding of relevant regulations.
The role demands reaching, bending, climbing, pushing, pulling, twisting, squatting, and kneeling to perform repairs and inspections. Workers must lift medium loads (up to 50 lb occasionally, 25 lb frequently, and 10 lb continuously) and be able to work indoors in a shared, noisy environment or outdoors in inclement or hazardous conditions. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, and vibration is possible.
With demonstrated proficiency and supervisor recommendation, incumbents may advance to the next classification level subject to availability and VP of Fleet approval. The position may require pre‑employment screening, including background checks and drug testing, and candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
This is a union position with wages based on experience and certifications; the advertised rate is $35.24 per hour, and benefits are outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
