The Construction Observation Specialist monitors construction activities to ensure work aligns with plans, specifications, and contract documents. This role documents progress, identifies and resolves field issues, acts as a liaison with project teams, verifies work quality, and prepares daily reports and logs to keep project managers informed of any deviations.
- Perform full‑time on‑site special inspection and construction observation for geotechnical works such as earthwork, landslide stabilization, deep foundations, ground anchors, horizontal drains, and earth‑retention structures.
- Verify construction compliance with plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Observe progress and workmanship, identify deficiencies, and ensure corrective actions are taken.
- Collaborate with the project team to resolve non‑compliant construction issues.
- Review contractor submittals for alignment with project documents.
- Conduct geotechnical analysis and calculations to support observation activities and submittal reviews.
- Prepare daily field activity reports documenting observations and progress.
- Support business development by preparing cost proposals and client presentations.
- Follow Shannon & Wilson’s Quality Assurance, Health & Safety, and Loss Prevention policies.

- BS in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical focus) or related field; MS or PhD in Geotechnical/Geological Engineering preferred.
- 7‑14 years of experience, including at least 2 years in geotechnical construction observation; experience with drilled shafts and ground anchors is preferred.
- Excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills with a professional and flexible demeanor.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and travel up to 75% of the time, including trips up to four weeks.
- Valid driver’s license, insurable driving record, and ability to lift 30+ pounds and work in all weather conditions.
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel; MS Access is desirable.

Typically placed at a Senior Professional I, II, or III level depending on education, experience, and fit, the mid‑level specialist can expect salary ranges of $92,240‑$138,360 for Senior Professional I, $102,480‑$153,720 for Senior Professional II, and $112,720‑$169,080 for Senior Professional III.
