The Applications Specialist provides technical support to the NA Sales Network, acting as a key resource for mill site troubleshooting, solution development, and strategic sales presentations. Responsibilities span mill optimization, quotation preparation, and technical sales support. The position bridges engineering expertise with customer interaction to drive loyalty and future orders.
In mill site optimization, the specialist responds to specific mill problems by delivering value‑added services that may be billed or offered at no cost to build relationships. They perform wet‑end audits, document equipment and paper properties, and compare operational practices against global best practices. Findings are used to recommend equipment upgrades and introduce new technologies. Each audit generates technical marketing material and a case study for the project.
For quotation preparation, the specialist reviews technical requests from sales associates, mills, engineering firms, or machine builders and determines the required drainage or ancillary equipment. They create outlines that include vacuum requirements, drainage projections, layout drawings, horsepower estimates, and supporting cover letters and presentations. The specialist may also oversee equipment start‑up, conduct customer training, and execute trial plans with detailed reporting. These activities ensure accurate pricing and timely delivery of solutions.
Technical sales support involves delivering ROI‑focused arguments, producing technical marketing content, and aiding broader product‑line promotion efforts. The specialist collaborates with inside sales to strengthen proposals and enhance customer confidence. This role requires the ability to research data, generate persuasive presentations, and maintain strong relationships from the shop floor to senior management.
Candidates must hold a Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent paper‑industry experience, possess excellent communication and presentation skills, and have hands‑on knowledge of wet‑end operations, equipment design, and paper property testing. Familiarity with AutoCAD and a proactive, initiative‑taking attitude are preferred. ANDRITZ is an equal‑opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
