Description

An Assembler assembles components and parts to create finished products by following blueprints, work instructions, or diagrams, and performs quality checks to ensure specifications are met. They maintain a clean and organized work area, report any issues or defects to supervisors, and work collaboratively within a team. Attention to detail, manual dexterity, and teamwork are essential skills for success in this role. The Assembler reports to the Manufacturing Supervisor of the Assembly department and is responsible for assembling electrical units, switchgear, and other Powell products.

• Build and assemble mechanical components for Switchgear and/or Breaker units per engineering drawings and specifications.
• Maintain and correctly use tools.
• Conduct in‑process inspections, follow work instructions, and identify quality risks.
• Perform ship preparation tasks, including gear splitting.
• Promote safety culture and attend safety meetings.
• Keep work areas clean and organized.
• Read tape measures and convert between fractional, decimal, metric and imperial units.
• Read spec sheets and follow hardware specifications.
• Follow directions from senior and lead assemblers.
• Commit to customer focus and company growth.
• Collaborate effectively within team and across departments.
• Adhere to manufacturing policies and ISO requirements.
• Work in a safety‑sensitive, temperature‑controlled manufacturing environment with occasional outdoor tasks.
• Operate from various ladders and perform work at heights up to 20 ft with proper lift and fall protection equipment.
• Maintain balance and agility while walking, standing, crouching, and climbing stairs or ladders.
• Bend, reach, and extend arms in any direction during tasks.
• Use both arms above shoulder level frequently.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
• Lift up to 50 lb using proper techniques.
• Basic computer skills.
• Proficient written and verbal English.
• Interest or experience in building/repairing mechanical components.
• Basic understanding of one‑line and three‑line drawings.
• Safety training certificates (asset).
• Demonstrate on‑time delivery and focus on goals.
• Self‑starter able to handle multiple tasks.
• Adapt to new ideas, technology, processes, or product changes.
• Wear required PPE such as safety shoes, hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, and respirators as needed.
• Lift up to 50 lb.
• Frequent use of hand and power tools.
