Senior Mechanical Engineer

Description

• Be a key technical resource for complex, high-value customer projects that require deep electrical expertise and cross-functional collaboration.
• Collaborate with Sales, offering owners, application engineers, and manufacturing to bridge the gap between customer requirements and practical, buildable solutions.
• Act as a technical mentor to engineers and sales team members, helping improve internal understanding of mechanical design principles and complex power distribution solutions.
• Support and lead the custom quoting and order process, ensuring technical feasibility, manufacturability, and compliance with UL standards and customer specifications.
• Identify common customizations and work toward streamlining configurations to improve quoting speed and accuracy.
• Provide mechanical engineering expertise across a wide range of Trystar products, ensuring custom designs align with best practice and production capabilities.
• Continuously improve processes to reduce rework, enhance design efficiency, and improve order accuracy.
• Refine and document quoting processes to improve efficiency and reduce engineering cycle time for custom orders.
• Improve the accuracy and efficiency of the custom quoting process, helping Trystar scale without increasing lead times or engineering bottlenecks.
• Work on a wide range of power distribution products, from switchgear and load banks to docking stations and battery storage solutions.
• Design custom power distribution equipment following UL 1008, UL 508, UL 891 and UL 1558 standards.

Requirements

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to design accuracy.
• Strong leadership skills, with a proven ability to mentor engineers and collaborate across multiple departments.
• Understanding and application of mechanical design best practice, including safety, manufacturability, and compliance with relevant codes and standards.
• Experience with creation of detailed technical product documentation to support product manufacturing, functional testing, certification testing, and customer requests.
• Familiarity with design for reliability, design for testability, design for manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Safety (DFS)
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to balance customer customization with standardization for efficiency.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Ability to identify inefficiencies and drive continuous improvement in engineering workflows, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to interpret customer specifications and site requirements to create accurate mechanical solutions.
• Experience defining mechanical specifications and component layout for power distribution offerings including switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, load banks, and Docking stations.
• Curiosity and initiative to explore new technologies, solve problems independently, and continuously improve designs and processes.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with standards such as UL 1008, UL 508, UL 891 and UL 1558.
• Proficiency with mechanical design software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Exposure to root cause analysis and corrective action processes related to mechanical design or production issues.
• ERP, PLM, and Engineering Vault experience for managing mechanical design documentation and BOM.
• Experience leading or contributing to continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Kaizen events, process audits, design standardization)
• Project management experience, including the ability to lead cross-functional teams, track project timelines, and ensure deliverables are met on schedule.
• Proven ability to act as a technical multiplier – improving team velocity through reusable tools, documentation, or mentoring.
• Experience creating frameworks, templates, or automations that reduce repetitive work and improve consistency across engineering teams.
• 7+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably for custom-engineered power distribution and electromechanical system design.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
• Experience improving engineering efficiency through automation, modularization, or process standardization.
