Provider of UK housing repairs, maintenance, care services, development and facilities management
Key responsibilities include supporting service users at various stages of their asylum application, addressing safeguarding and welfare issues, and providing both practical and emotional assistance. The officer will monitor wellbeing, conduct risk assessments, maintain up‑to‑date support plans, and ensure accurate record‑keeping for Home Office audits. Additional duties involve assisting clients with healthcare, education and community services, signposting to external agencies, accompanying them to appointments, and promoting independence by developing life‑skills.
Collaboration is essential; the role requires working closely with colleagues, local authorities and partner organisations, responding calmly to crisis situations, and sharing feedback to drive service improvements. The officer must uphold equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of service delivery and support the organisation’s commitment to vulnerable and diverse client groups.
Candidates should have experience working with vulnerable populations, a strong understanding of safeguarding practices, and the ability to support individuals with mental health issues or challenging behaviour. Effective communication, case‑management, risk‑assessment and IT skills are required, alongside the ability to work independently, manage time, and maintain confidentiality and data protection. A full UK driving licence is also mandatory.
The Welfare Support Officer role offers an annual salary of up to £28,917, a company vehicle with fuel card or a £3,500 car allowance, and is based in Bradford on a full‑time permanent contract of 40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday. Mears Group provides temporary accommodation for asylum seekers across the Northeast, Yorkshire & Humber, Northern Ireland and Scotland, serving over 19,000 users as of May 2021. The organisation works with government bodies, registered providers, tenants, landlords and investors to address homelessness, deliver social and affordable housing, and create specialist housing for people with care needs.
Mears offers 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, an annual Mears Fun Day, paid volunteering leave, and a range of staff discounts through Mears Rewards. Additional benefits include family‑friendly policies, a company vehicle and fuel card, access to EAP counselling, and eligibility for the car allowance if age and licence criteria are met. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK, will undergo background, identity and security checks, and can contact Beth Dunford for further information.
