Diesel Mechanic

Description

The Mechanic uses tools, testing instruments, and equipment to install, inspect, repair, overhaul, maintain, adjust and troubleshoot diesel power generation equipment.

• Timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work.
• Completing all mandated training requirements by government and management directives.
• Must have and maintain hand tools of the trade to perform the normal work of the classifications.
• Dealing with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
• Makes repairs and performs overhauls as required using heavy wrenches, pullers, jacks, hoists, load banks and bridge cranes on equipment including diesel and gasoline engines, air compressors, pneumatic starters, batteries, hydraulic systems and fuel systems.
• Inspects, operates, maintains and repairs fuel, coolant, compressed air, hydraulic and lubricating oil systems.
• Operates emergency generators during routine tests and actual emergencies. Observes, records, and evaluates temperature, pressure, level, and RPM readings.
• Performs operations, maintenance and repairs on stationary and mobile power generation equipment from 500 Watts through 2,500 Kilowatts, including auxiliary components and station service equipment.
• Performs lockout/tagout of engines and auxiliary systems as required to safely isolate the equipment for service.
• Performs inspection and evaluation of equipment using personal observation, calipers, torque wrenches, dial indicators, deflection gauges, exhaust analyzers, electrical multi-meters, vernier scales, hydrometers, compression gauges and micrometers.

Requirements

**U.S. Citizenship Required**

• Detailed working experience and knowledge of diesel engines associated with generator systems of 500 horsepower or larger.
• Timely and cost effective performance of duties.
• Four (4) year technical training program completion or a recognized, established apprenticeship program.
• Must possess good communication skills for a service team environment.
• Having the ability to work well under pressure.
• Ability to meet and maintain company physical and security requirements and clearance eligibility when required.
• Valid state driver's license with acceptable driving record
• Compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and Personnel policies and procedures.
• The proper use of tools and equipment commonly used in the Diesel/Power Generation Equipment Mechanic field.
• Must have knowledge of, and know how to use, specialized tools needed to perform repair functions.
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment.
• Knowledgeable in the operation of associated electrical controls for the above equipment including motor control centers, disconnect switches, automatic transfer switches and battery chargers.
• Four (4) years' experience as a heavy diesel power generation equipment mechanic, including mechanical and machine equipment repair.
• Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.
• Adherence to established company safety policies and good industrial and office safety practices.
• Training may be substituted with progressive "hands on” experience specifically in the diesel power generation area, on a year for year basis, with at least two (2) years at an apprentice level.
