A Structural Welder will weld, fabricate and assist pipe fitters, electricians, millwrights, and ironworks in the installation of various equipment and supports for industrial pipe, structural, electrical and mechanical systems.
- Select equipment and plan layouts, assemblies and welding using knowledge of geometry, metal properties and weld shrinkage.
- Layout, position, align, cut, assemble and fit metal components in diverse positions and locations.
- Bolt, clamp and tack‑weld parts to secure them for welding.
- Set up equipment and weld using arc, gas‑shielded, submerged or arc‑gas welding processes.
- Weld metal to piping systems using appropriate procedures for each equipment and metal type.
- Identify all equipment needed for the job and process.
- Identify all safety risks and requirements.
- Read blueprints and engineering drawings to perform work efficiently.
- Interpret technical manuals as applicable.
- Weld on industrial‑size and grade equipment.
- Assist with other activities when not actively welding.
- Maintain reliable transportation.
- Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push and pull objects, tools and controls.
- Work at slight heights, climb ladders and stairways, and occasionally work off platforms with proper fall protection.

- Stick weld on various types of equipment and material.
- Hold a current Zachry welding certification or pass a weld test.
- Possess 4+ years of welding experience.
- Have all required tools on start date.
- Stick weld in 2G, 3G and 4G positions.
- Proficient with various welding rods, including 6010 and 7018.
- Know metal characteristics, appropriate welding processes and effects of welding on materials.
- Weld multiple material types such as carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum and chrome.
- Current Zachry or Zachry ROF’ed employee.
- Former experience with Zachry Industrial, Inc.
- Previous experience in this position with Zachry Industrial, Inc.
- Hold a current Zachry certification.
- Experience on combined‑cycle power plant construction projects.
- Perform extensive standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting and lifting.
- Communicate verbally and by hearing.
- Lift, carry and move up to 50 lb as needed.
- Work in various weather conditions, including heat, while wearing appropriate PPE.
- Wear required PPE such as hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear protection, respirators, safety vest, gloves and leather boots.
- Certification: HBZ‑131 for 2G, 3G, 4G.
- Weld test: six ½" thick carbon steel coupons and one ¼" thick backing bar using SMAW (stick).
- Metal tool box with lock.
- Tig rig (combo welder only).

- Pair of Klein pliers or equivalent.
- Two crescent wrenches, 12" and 15".
- 25‑foot tape.
