Manages flow of design information and feedback between the owners, designers, and internal teams to ensure aligned technical coordination of the project;
Identify notices of technical changes by the Client to the estimating team to evaluate the impacts and costs in relation to the design;
Primary contact with the Client (design related matters), Consultant team, Municipalities, and other authorities for detailed development of design deliverables and all design related matters;
Assist the Design Manager in managing design;
Regular reporting to project team members and senior management related to design schedule performance and quality of deliverables;
Collaborate with the estimation team by providing suitable designs and technical information to estimate the project and track quantity movements during design development;
Manage changes in the scope of work of professional firms, and coordinate consultant contract amendments as required;
Facilitate the review of technical risks in accordance with the risk register developed during the proposal phase ensuring risks are mitigated through appropriate actions with professionals;
Audit the design documents against the requirements, ensuring they are complete and meet industry quality standards, including coordination of MEP, structural, and architectural disciplines;
Ensure that the design strategy is maintained in accordance with the requirements of the project and construction strategy;
Ensure the involvement of project and construction personnel to optimize all aspects of design;
Lead design reviews and design optimization by reviewing all possible options and facilitating value engineering workshops with stakeholders;
Establishes and drives design deviation request process with user groups and builds rapport with the user group members / client representative;
Communicates and drives design submissions and scheduling of activities to meet permitting, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover requirements;
Ensure that the technical requirements of the proposal calls are met;
Provide support to the construction execution team to ensure the design documents meet that teams’ requirements and participate in site coordination meetings to resolve design-related field issues.
Monitor the performance of professional firms based on project performance indicators (quality of deliverables, schedules, hours, and costs) and propose corrective actions required;
Facilitate the review of engineering value analysis elements identified during the proposal phase and identify other elements to reduce costs and schedules;

Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in a similar position; on institutional, commercial, or government projects valued at $20M;
Post-secondary education or training in Architectural, Engineering, Commercial, or Construction discipline background prior to moving into Design Management;
Bilingual (an asset), but proficiency in English language with excellent communication skills (written and verbal) is required;
Autonomy; and proactive problem-solving mindset;
Strong interpersonal skills with experience managing stakeholder expectations and resolving conflicts diplomatically.
Experience with Design-Build or P3 project delivery methods is considered an asset;
