The R&D Test Technician operates development test cells, prepares and installs engines, and ensures test cells are maintained in good working order. This role supports engineering and development testing by rebuilding engines, exchanging components, and installing test equipment, while keeping detailed daily records in engine and equipment logbooks.
Technicians work with calibration and automation software, reserve necessary parts, fluids, and hardware, and perform basic maintenance and preventive maintenance tracking. They support production testing as needed, act as the first‑level troubleshooter for test cell and engine issues, mentor Rolls‑Royce personnel, and maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Development Test Cell standards.
Basic requirements include an associate degree in Engineering Science or Mechanical Technology, or two years of mechanical trade school combined with two years of combustion engine testing experience. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship, be able to lift 20‑60 lb items, work rotating shifts including overtime, and possess basic PC and Microsoft Office skills.
Preferred qualifications feature advanced operational ability demonstrated by skill‑based pay competency levels, strong engine troubleshooting and instrumentation skills, proficiency with mechanical and electrical hand tools, and knowledge of internal combustion engine operations and technical terminology. Candidates should also have solid communication abilities, analytical problem‑solving skills, and experience with AVL PUMA, ETAS INCA, MTU engines, forklift operation, and rigging.
The work environment is a durable‑goods manufacturing setting that requires frequent walking, standing, and handling of tools and parts, with regular lifting of up to 25 lb and occasional lifting of up to 60 lb. Employees need good close, distance, peripheral, and depth vision and may be exposed to typical industrial elements.
Compensation includes an hourly pay range of $22.89‑$34.33, a discretionary bonus plan, and a comprehensive Total Rewards package.
