Wiring Designer

Industrial Electric Mfg. (Iem)

The Role

Overview

Create wiring diagrams and panel layouts from electrical schematics using AutoCAD.

Key Responsibilities

  • wiring diagrams
  • autocad
  • panel layouts
  • design review
  • production support
  • site visits

Tasks

-Provide feedback on design for manufacturability concerns—highlighting complex wiring routes, crowded terminal strips, or space constraints. -Participate in team meetings to share lessons learned, discuss common error sources, and suggest process enhancements. -Follow up regularly with Electrical Engineers to clarify ambiguous schematic details or resolve missing information. -Update drawings promptly when Design engineering update the electrical schematics, ensuring production always works from the latest data. -Conduct periodic visits to multiple plant locations (up to 2–3 times per year) to conduct in-person reviews of in-process panels and support production teams. -Verify that diagrams function correctly on the shop floor—visually inspect panels as needed to confirm accuracy and identify potential build issues. -Participate in peer reviews to catch and correct any discrepancies before releasing drawings to production. -Communicate with production staff to address red‐lines and clarify any questions regarding wiring diagrams. -Escalate any critical discrepancies that cannot be resolved through the design engineering team. -Perform self‐checks on all wiring diagrams to verify every conductor, terminal, and connector matches the original schematic. -Develop control panel layouts indicating locations of devices, DIN‐rail, shipping split connectors, terminal blocks, wireways and other control panel mounted components. -Interpret electrical schematics and produce point‐to‐point wiring diagrams utilizing AutoCAD along with in‐house palettes and custom blocks.

Requirements

  • 2+ years
  • autocad
  • ms office
  • panel-shop
  • doc control

What You Bring

-Minimum of 2 years of experience interpreting electrical drawings—such as point-to-point wiring diagrams or electrical schematics—for production, testing, or design. -Proficiency in AutoCAD. -Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). -Experience in panel-shop or industrial control drafting environments; direct switchgear-specific experience is a plus but not required. -Exposure to document control systems or ECO/EO tracking databases is beneficial.
