Observe and demonstrate all construction safety protocols; communicate concerns with the resident engineer, contractor, or supervisor
Maintains a work schedule conducive to team collaboration and project-specific requirements
Resolve field coordination issues and bring larger concerns to the attention of the resident engineer, contractor, or other individual in charge of the site
Effectively applies experience and skills to increasingly complex assignments
Assist in administering portions of the contract and may prepare change orders
Produce accurate technical reports to document daily construction inspection activities
Develop and maintain collaborative and trusted relationships with multidisciplinary teams
Identify deviations from plans and specifications and offer ideas for resolving
Review and monitor work for Quality Assurance/Quality Control purposes and course correct when applicable
Effectively maintains office and field health & safety requirements and protocols
Mentor and delegate work to less experienced members of the construction team
Identify, report, and document construction activities to ensure compliance with contract documents
Monitor street and utility projects for compliance with traffic, survey, or construction activities
Be present on-site when required by contractor(s) and/or project manager
Conduct work with minimal supervision, exercising good engineering judgment and initiative
Accurately interpret contract drawings, standard drawings, and specifications
Participate in arranging job progress meetings, material testing, and construction inspections
Coordinate the interface between design and field construction and inspection work
Measure, document, and calculate quantities of project work performed

Field work includes periods of driving or riding in a vehicle on construction sites and exposure to outside weather conditions and various environmental conditions
IDOT Documentation Certification and OSHA 30 required, or obtained within 6 months of hire
4+ years of applicable experience
Considerable time may be spent at a workstation using a computer and using various forms of communication (telephone, email, messaging, etc.)
B.S. in civil engineering or related field (ABET/EAC-accredited program)
Proficient presentation skills and developing leadership skills
PE Required (or working towards licensure in the next 6-12 months)
Demonstrates understanding of industry and construction practices, methodologies, and best practices
Involves sitting some of the time, but requires the ability to conduct work on a construction site or other field location
Proficient with general documentation software such as Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), Bluebeam, and/or PowerPoint
Demonstrates ability to convey information through effective verbal and written communication
Occasionally lifts and carries up to 30 pounds
Proficient with computer-aided design software and other software packages typically associated with construction and engineering required
May exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to move objects
Demonstrates ability to successfully engage with professionals in a multi-disciplinary environment, communicate with team members; build relationships and trust
Ability to present recommendations and results to stakeholders as requested
Valid driver's license required
Exercises sound engineering judgement
Physical activities include walking, stooping, crawling, and crouching
Skilled in preparing reports, cost estimates, schedules, and quantity take offs
