  • Audits and measures the effectiveness of hazard controls and hazard control programs. Communicates the results to management.
  • Provides safety related input into proposals or actual changes to facility operations and maintenance practices.
  • Participates on the team for internal EH&S audits and acquisition due diligence as required.
  • Identifies, coordinates, and provides (instructor) safety training requirements.
  • Maintain specialized knowledge of safety regulations and industry consensus safety guidelines;
  • Works closely with Managers and Supervisors in all departments to ensure effective implementation and enforcement of safety policies and procedures including inspections.
  • Establishes safety management systems that support company goals and meet/or exceed regulatory requirements.
  • Observes and complies with all standard safety codes and practices, and performs work in accordance with recognized trade and company standards and, where applicable, local, state, and federal laws.
  • Prepares safety SOPs, site specific programs, etc as required.
  • Serves as contact to safety regulatory agencies.
  • Integrates safety concepts into all facets of capital planning, performance modeling, operations, maintenance, engineering and customer operations, etc.
  • Identifies and advances new technologies and innovations for health & safety.
  • Coordinates work-site evaluation and characterization and job hazard analyses with respect to chemical, physical, and biological exposures and for proper PPE requirements.
  • Provides notification to government agencies as required.
  • Conducts facility inspections. Provides compliance status report to management. Works to develop necessary corrective actions and supports their implementation.
  • Participates in mandatory training and other programs.
  • Develops hazard control designs, methods, procedures, and programs.
  • Prepares estimates, specifications, and schedules for safety consultant, contractor, and equipment upgrades as needed.
  • Conducts accident and incident investigations, performs root cause analysis, and recommends appropriate corrective actions.
  • Coordinates Industrial Hygiene (IH) program, conducts inspections, schedules consultant services, ensures collection of quality data.
  • Prepares Alerts and Lesson Learned documents as required.
  • Identifies safety and risks and provides mitigation plans which are consistent with business performance and reliability goals.
  • Supports the various Safety Committees.
  • Designs and implements employee training programs in accordance with the training needs assessment on topics such as accident investigation, safety inspections, use of protective equipment, confined space entry, lockout tagout, respiratory protection, etc. and provides field coaching in the same.
  • Conducts safety site assessments and due diligence for CapEx and OpEx projects.
  • Reviews, updates, develops, and implements corporate HS&S standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains safety records including permits, compliance data, training records etc.
  • Prepares reports for regulatory submittal as required.
  • Maintains safety record-keeping and reporting programs (i.e. OneEHS, injury reporting, OSHA logs, etc.). Maintains a variety of records and documents, onsite and archived, for OSHA and other compliance purposes.
  • Audits safety program implementation.
  • Construction project HSS oversight.
  • The employee will be required to wear personal protective equipment and clothing where appropriate (including respiratory protection (APR/SCBA) because of their work around potential hazards such as loud noise, moving equipment, airborne particles, vibration, hazardous materials, field visits with crews working road/highway settings (traffic exposure).
  • Meets formally and informally with all departments to ensure plans are supported and all safety requirements are in place.
  • Provides input to the budget as it pertains to safety and security.
  • Maintains facility Safety Data Sheets.

  • Is a required member of the Haworth WTP Emergency Response Team.
  • Must be able to work in extremes of hot and cold temperatures and inclement weather conditions.
  • OSHA 500 and 501 Trainer.
  • At no time is facial hair permitted.
  • Willing and able to work in the field with field staff evaluating, coaching and supporting safety, health, and security extensively.
  • Strong writing, coaching, and teaching skills;
  • Ability to balance changing and potentially conflicting priorities.
  • Experience with State Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Police, etc.
  • Incident Investigation/Root Cause Analysis.
  • CPR/AED Trainer.
  • 5-7 years of experience with safety and security programs in a utility or manufacturing industry.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of operational aspects of Water and Wastewater facilities.
  • Must be available (24/7) to respond to & assist with HSS incidents or emergencies.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • OSHA 510 and 511.
  • OSHA 30 completion.
  • Ability to interact with all levels within the BU.
  • May require repetitive stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, and carrying; intermittent lifting, and moving up to 20 lbs.
  • Experience with Emergency Response Plan development and implementation, ICS trained
  • Ability to wear all applicable Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Willing to work extended work schedules (as needed).
  • Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds, high-lifts, and in confined spaces.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Advanced emergency medical training (EMT, First Responder, etc).
  • Professional certification (ASP, CSP, CHST, CIH, etc).
  • Ability to self-organize, prioritize and drive own work schedule.
  • Strong organizational, oral, written and interpersonal skills;
  • Proficient knowledge of Google programs including Sheets, Docs, Gmail and Slides;
  • This protective equipment includes, but is not limited to, safety eyewear, footwear, hard hat, gloves, hearing protection, and specialized clothing where applicable.
