Join our dynamic team at Hydrostor in the exciting field of long-duration energy storage. We are seeking a Development Manager to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the day-to-day development of utility-scale energy storage projects from inception to financial close.

  • Market Understanding: Maintain a fundamental understanding of regulatory and market dynamics in designated regions.
  • Representation & Negotiation: Be the face of Hydrostor in community settings and in front of individual landowners and large landowner groups. Lead commercial aspects of land acquisition negotiations and execute necessary documentation.
  • Site Selection: Collaborate with the Commercial team to provide services and guidance regarding fundamental site selection criteria, identifying prospective project sites based on land ownership, resource potential, revenue opportunities, and more.
  • Strategic Land Acquisition: Plan and manage land acquisition strategies, including the supervision of external land acquisition contractors.
  • Title/Survey: Work with Title Companies and Surveyors, in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders, to identify and cure title exceptions. Initiate and advance ALTA surveys to capture constraints and project design to facilitate project financing.
  • Safety Advocate: Lead by example with a safety and quality-oriented attitude, actively supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Environmental Expertise: Collaborate with teams to manage and conduct environmental due diligence and permitting processes.
  • Entitlements: Facilitate discussions with elected and unelected leaders and associates to build project support and mitigate project opposition, to successfully secure zoning approvals where required.
  • Community Engagement: Engage directly with landowners to gauge their interest in project participation.
  • Safety & Compliance: Prioritize safety and security, ensure internal and external stakeholders comply with Hydrostor safety standards, report unsafe conditions, and adhere to proper procedures.
  • Project Management: Generate project budgets, schedules, risk assessments, drive internal and external stakeholder engagement through transparent and collaborative communication and documentation, and secure stage gate approvals.

We are seeking an individual passionate about clean energy and driven to excel in project development. The ideal candidate will have a background in developing or managing large energy projects or similarly large, complex energy infrastructure projects. Proficiency in project management, interconnection systems, commercial acumen, and in-depth knowledge of permitting, environmental studies, and regulations are essential. Collaboration, attention to detail, a thirst for learning, and a commitment to excellence and passion are your standout qualities.

Travel Requirement: Approximately 30-50%

  • Experience engaging and directing efforts to procure Title, cure title exceptions, and position projects for issuance of Title insurance policies.
  • General knowledge of electricity markets, ISO market structures, utility rate base structures, and energy companies.
  • Key competencies include collaboration, strong written and verbal communication, attention to detail, adaptability, excellence, and passion.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Interconnection Prowess: Work to manage and conduct interconnection/transmission processes.
  • General understanding of project management, prioritizing multiple tasks against a typical schedule.
  • Knowledge of real property and surface ownership determinations, lease/easement/crossing/mineral negotiations.
  • Constructability Insight: Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to conduct constructability due diligence.
  • General understanding of permitting, environmental studies, and risks.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal permits.
  • Basic financial modelling understanding and its impact on project economics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technical aspects of energy storage projects.
  • Familiarity with interconnection processes and grid operations.
  • 5+ years of related experience, having done some aspect of a project, land, interconnection permitting, etc.
  • Proficiency in GIS, Land Acquisition Software, MS Office and Outlook.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, law, engineering, or a related field
