Role Overview The Operator Brake/Winch (B5) is responsible for the safe set-up and operation of brake/winch equipment used in the stringing and tensioning of overhead transmission line conductors. This role requires precision, a strong safety focus, and close coordination with rigging and lines teams to ensure stringing activities are carried out effectively.

  • Support general site activities when not operating equipment.
  • Participate in routine inspections or patrolling of transmission lines and equipment under supervision.
  • Keep accurate logs of operations and equipment use.
  • Monitor conductor tension and ensure compliance with engineering requirements.
  • Assist with set-up, anchoring and calibration of brake/winch equipment.
  • Perform pre-start checks, maintenance and safe shut-down of winch equipment.
  • Assist linespeople with installation, maintenance, or repair of conductors and associated electrical equipment under supervision (if required).
  • Operate brake/winch machinery for conductor stringing and tensioning.
  • Communicate effectively with riggers and linespeople during live stringing operations.

Highly Desirable

  • Additional High Risk Work Licences (EWP, Tower Rescue).
  • AQF Certificate III in Rigging, Plant Operations, or equivalent OR a minimum of three (3) years' relevant full-time experience operating brake/winch equipment or similar plant in transmission line construction or utilities.
  • Intermediate Rigging and Dogging High Risk Work Licences.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Current National Police Clearance.
  • Demonstrated experience in brake/winch set-up, calibration, and conductor stringing/tensioning.
  • OH&S Construction Safety Induction (White Card).

Rosters Rosters will vary depending on project requirements. Candidates should be willing to work on swing-style roster arrangements that may include extended periods on site followed by periods of leave.

Camp Accommodation

  • Central West Orana: Camp accommodation will be provided at Merotherie, NSW, with extensive facilities including mess halls, gym, recreation areas, and onsite convenience store.
  • HumeLink East: Camp accommodation will be provided in Yass and Adjungbilly, with facilities including gym, mess halls, laundry, and wellness support.
  • Competitive remuneration in accordance with the Acciona Construction Australia NSW Transmission Enterprise Agreement 2024-2028.
  • Safe Working at Heights.
  • Salaries will vary based on roster arrangements, with additional allowances applying in accordance with the Enterprise Agreement.
