Operator - Light

Description

The Light Equipment Operator is responsible for operating hand‑held mechanical devices and a variety of heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, loaders, forklifts, graders, drills, and generators. The role requires understanding and mitigating safety hazards, and the ability to use tools and equipment safely and efficiently. Work is performed on plant operations or construction job sites.

• Read and interpret load charts
• Interpret hand signals to determine material placement
• Perform minor maintenance or cleaning of tools and equipment
• Conduct daily equipment inspections, check fluids, refuel, and assess wear
• Report malfunctioning equipment to supervisors
• Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment, and supplies
• Assist other craft workers as needed
• Operate cars, trucks, forklifts, and other equipment
• Work on uneven, muddy, rocky, or soft surfaces and in adverse weather
• Make decisions and maintain attention amid distractions

Requirements

The position demands significant physical stamina, including lifting or carrying up to 50 lb (occasionally 100 lb), climbing, balancing on ladders and scaffolds, and working in uneven, muddy, or harsh weather conditions. It also requires strong communication skills, the ability to read and follow written instructions, make decisions, and stay detail‑oriented amid distractions.
