Senior Billing Specialist (Law Firm)

Description

The Senior Legal Billing Specialist plays a key role in the firm's finance operations, managing the full billing cycle for a portfolio of complex client matters. This individual partners closely with attorneys, clients, and finance leadership to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant billing, while providing exceptional client service and contributing to process improvement initiatives.

• Prepare, edit, and finalize prebills and ebills in accordance with attorney and client requirements.
• Collaborate with eBilling and Collections teams to ensure successful invoice submission and timely payment.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior billing team members and participate in process improvement efforts.
• Support financial reporting, accruals, and ad hoc billing analysis.
• Track fee arrangements, budgets, discounts, and write-offs; escalate potential issues proactively.
• Manage the end-to-end billing process from engagement setup through final invoice submission and payment posting.
• Maintain accurate client/matter data, unallocated funds, and billing codes in the firm's financial system.
• Communicate directly with attorneys and clients regarding billing inquiries, adjustments, and special arrangements.
• Review outside counsel guidelines and ensure compliance with client-specific billing and rate arrangements.

Requirements

This role requires previous law firm billing experience. Please do not apply if you do not have law firm billing experience.

• Strong Excel and data management skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
• Ability to handle multiple deadlines and deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency with financial/billing systems (Aderant or Elite 3E preferred).
• 5+ years of legal billing experience in a law firm environment.
