  • Teaching: Competent in teaching technical, quality and efficient work skills to junior technicians.
  • Teamwork: Collaboration with the team leader and other lab technicians is essential.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: The technician will need to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions or unexpected test results and determine the cause.
  • Experience: Typically 2-5 years in a geotechnical or civil engineering laboratory, but we will consider less.
  • Leading by Example: Ability to motivate with enthusiasm and empathy, bringing positive energy, uplifting others, and inspiring the team to work together toward shared goals.

  • Practical Skills: Experience with basic hand tools, and repair and maintenance of equipment.
  • Quick Learner: Willingness and ability to pick up new skills and knowledge quickly.
  • Triaxial Testing: This is the core skill. The technician should be able to operate triaxial testing apparatus, prepare soil and rock samples for testing, conduct the tests according to set procedures, and collect and record data.
  • Understanding of Soil Mechanics: A basic understanding of soil mechanics theory, geotechnical materials, civil engineering applications and how the principles of triaxial testing are applied.
  • Qualifications: Ideally you will have a degree or diploma in Geography, Geology, Earth Sciences, Physical Science, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Physics or similar.
  • Capability: Ability to lift items weighing up to 15kg on a regular basis.
