Key responsibilities include delivering process‑improvement cost‑out initiatives such as cycle‑time reduction, tooling cost savings, and setup reduction, as well as creating machining processes from blueprints. The incumbent will design cutting tools and fixtures for daily troubleshooting, drive new‑product introductions using established NPI standards, and actively participate in Rapid Improvement Events to eliminate waste. Additional duties involve researching and implementing new technology, developing mistake‑proofing solutions, supporting the site’s manufacturing strategy, and addressing safety concerns such as lock‑out/tag‑out, machine guarding, and ergonomics.
The role is based in the Charleston, SC Machining Center of Excellence and focuses on executing and implementing best machining practices, including process troubleshooting, improvement, new product introduction, and advancements in machining technologies. The position requires knowledge and hands‑on experience with a variety of material removal processes such as CNC turning, milling, grinding, broaching, hobbing, and honing.
The position supports the Quality Policy and Quality Management System and requires at least three years of manufacturing engineering experience in a machining environment along with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Candidates must be U.S. persons as defined by ITAR and will work with information subject to ITAR regulations.
Preferred qualifications include a B.S. in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering, ten or more years of machining engineering experience, and subject‑matter expertise in at least two material‑removal processes (turning, 3‑5 axis milling, grinding, broaching, hobbing, honing). Required skills encompass strong written and verbal communication, leadership, analytical reasoning, and knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality systems such as QS‑9000, ISO‑9001, AS9100. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with CAM software such as GibbsCAM or MasterCAM are also valued.
