The Fire Alarm Technician installs, programs, configures, commissions, and services fire alarm and related systems—including Simplex, Fike, Kidde, Inergen, Sapphire, FM‑200, and CO₂—at customer sites. They execute projects on time within allocated installation hours, working with project managers to resolve discrepancies and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously. The role requires reading and interpreting complex blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, schematics, and operational manuals.
Installation activities are coordinated with all trades to optimize time, and the technician attends required site meetings. They instruct and train customers on system operation, conduct simulations, and answer questions while maintaining excellent customer service. Project documentation is completed promptly, and all work adheres to OSHA and SimplexGrinnell safety policies. Participation in a scheduled on‑call rotation and other assigned duties are also expected.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of experience with low‑voltage electrical systems such as fire/life safety, access control, nurse call, and paging. Proficiency with hand tools, multimeters, digital analyzers, and commissioning devices is required, along with the ability to obtain any necessary licenses. Physical requirements include lifting 50‑70 lb and working at heights up to 40 ft or in confined spaces, and flexibility to work weekends as needed. A valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to pass background and drug tests are mandatory; NICET Level II certification and knowledge of local fire codes are preferred.
The position offers an hourly salary range of $21.92 to $26.00, determined by education, experience, and market data, with a performance‑based bonus and a competitive benefits package.
