The Role
Overview
Perform hydrocarbon sample extraction, analysis, instrument upkeep, and reporting per SOPs.

Tasks
-Participate in developing Standard Operating Procedures and general work instructions -Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up and cross contamination between samples and other materials -Suggest and help to implement production efficiencies -Uses good judgment, trains and assists in resolution of employee relations issues -Identify any non-routine samples and seek guidance on procedures for handling -Keep work area clean, neat and organized -Participates, when requested in lab and Health & Safety meetings -Operate and maintain all necessary instruments and equipment to complete tasks (PC / Mac computers, pipettes, thermal cyclers, automated sequencers, liquid handling instruments, etc). -Assesses problems and recommends solutions -Maintain training records and relevant qualifications -Provide Supervisor/Manager with updates on workstation status including advance notification of any delays -Provide input to corrective action procedures and report problems and Corrective Actions to the Supervisor -Provide training and guidance to junior staff -Perform method and/or data validation -Provide support to ensure that instruments and equipment are maintained -Ensure a high level of accuracy in sample preparation and analysis -Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) when conducting following work: -Participates, when requested in internal and external audits -Inspires, motivates and participates in building a strong team environment -Identify and document all known sample deviations, non-conformances, and/or process deviations and report to the Supervisor. -Perform some basic testing procedures -Assess and correct problems with all laboratory operations according to SOP guidelines and ISO 17025 regulation criteria -Evaluate and initiate problem solving in all areas of the laboratory -Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program -Recommend solutions (technical/staffing), to make lab more effective and competitive -Perform more complex sample preparation and analyses -Proactive in ensuring that consumable supplies are available in the lab -Act as a positive change agent in supporting Bureau Veritas’ new initiatives (operational and cultural) -Provide technical expertise and mentoring to junior staff to effect process changes -Review LIMS summary reports to plan and organize daily work -Perform sample preparation and procedure prior to analyses -Meet quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirements

What You Bring
-Detail oriented with accurate record keeping skills -You have a Technical diploma (required), B.Sc. preferred -Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and instructions -Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills -Strong computer skills -You have 1 to 3 years of experience in related area of testing -You have knowledge of, and experience with laboratory Occupational health and Safety practices to handle hazardous materials by taking the necessary precautions -Availability for shift work, OT and weekend work required -Adapts to a changing environment -Excellent manual dexterity, record keeping, calculations and problem solving abilities -Willing to learn and continuously update skills and expertise through training -Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment -You have sound knowledge of sample handling procedures to ensure continuity and integrity of samples through compliance with laboratory procedures and quality assurance protocols
