The Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic is responsible for inspecting and troubleshooting trucks and equipment, recommending repairs to the supervisor, and executing required preventive maintenance and repairs on company equipment. The role also includes keeping the work environment clean and organized to maintain safety and efficiency, and being willing to work long hours, including Saturdays, when needed.
Key duties include having prior experience with heavy equipment, dump trucks, hydraulics, and diesel engines, possessing good communication skills, and bringing personal tools. Ability to operate heavy equipment is a plus, as is being a quick learner with thorough knowledge of safety precautions. The mechanic must coordinate workflow with crew, foreman, dispatcher, and superintendent, work under general supervision according to schedule, and maintain dependable attendance while being capable of lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects up to 40‑50 lbs.
Qualifications require the candidate to be at least 18 years old and to have a clean Class “B” driver’s license, with an air‑brake endorsement considered a plus. A basic understanding of construction principles and procedures is needed, along with the ability to work independently or as an active team member. Work is performed outdoors and may involve inclement weather, heat, humidity, and dust exposure.
