The Wind Technician position requires local travel within the hub and is a critical, active role to maintain optimal function and output at the wind site. Technicians work daily on turbine operations, safety, quality control and warranty repairs, partnering with the Site Lead and Manager to execute contract requirements and align with GE excellence.
Essential responsibilities include working with site and hub leadership to meet contractual obligations, performing maintenance, repair or replacement of electrical and mechanical components, troubleshooting complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable‑pitch and variable‑speed turbines, and conducting diagnostic electrical analysis. Technicians also document all work using computer‑based service reporting and coordinate with GE’s remote operations center when needed, while observing all safety requirements and operating with minimal supervision.
Qualifications require a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of wind technician or wind mechanic experience (or a wind certificate program/associate’s degree in energy), or two years of electrical work experience. Candidates must pass a technical knowledge assessment, possess basic computer skills, hold a valid driver’s license, be able to lift 50 lb and climb towers up to 300 ft, and meet manufacturer weight limits of 300 lb including gear. Flexibility to work rotating shifts, on‑call, and occasional overnights is also required.
Desired characteristics include an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a technical, electrical, or electronics field, technical certification in wind energy or electrical/electronic disciplines, and experience with hydraulic power tools, heavy equipment, crane and rigging requirements. The ability to work with a wide variety of personnel at all levels inside and outside the wind farm is valued.
