The Senior Estimator is accountable for the full bidding cycle, from initial review and analysis through hand‑off to Project Management. Responsibilities include bid analysis, plan review, quantity take‑offs, subcontractor pricing collection, and post‑bid assessment of both wins and losses. The role supports strategic decisions on whether to pursue projects.
Key functions of the Senior Estimator include developing innovative, accurate cost estimates; conducting detailed take‑offs of quantities and labor; sourcing and qualifying subcontractor and supplier pricing; identifying project‑specific risks and recommending mitigation strategies; and reviewing plans and specifications with stakeholders to confirm scope.
In collaboration with the Director of Estimating, the Senior Estimator mentors the estimating team, develops project plans, schedules, and proposal documents, and reviews estimates prepared by other team members. They participate in the “Go/No‑Go” process for complex projects, create complete project budgets, and assemble documentation for client presentations.
The position requires a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Construction Management, or an equivalent blend of education and experience, together with at least seven years of construction experience. Proficiency with Bid2Win or comparable estimating software and a track record of estimating medium‑to‑large commercial and industrial projects are essential. Candidates must exhibit creativity, urgency, self‑motivation, excellent communication, organization, and adaptable problem‑solving skills.
Travel to job sites and office locations is required, with compensation provided when applicable. Estimators work in both office and field environments and must be comfortable with extended periods of sitting.
Eligible team members receive medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with company contributions, paid holidays, and paid time off. The recruitment process includes a phone screen, in‑person interview, background check, and drug test. Fessler & Bowman is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
