SHEQ Advisor

Description

The Advisor will create and maintain policies and procedures aligned with legislation, monitor regulatory changes, and conduct regular site inspections and audits. They will develop control measures, deliver training on safety practices and PPE, investigate incidents, and prepare reports for management and regulators.

Collaboration with management, employees, contractors, and regulatory bodies is essential to address concerns, support operational teams, and participate in SHEQ committees. The role also involves monitoring program effectiveness and driving continuous improvement across the organization.

• Develop, implement, and review health and safety policies, procedures, and management systems for regulatory compliance.
• Monitor changes in health and safety legislation and update policies accordingly.
• Conduct regular risk assessments, site inspections, and audits to identify hazards and implement control measures.
• Design and deliver health and safety training programs for staff, supervisors, and managers.
• Provide guidance on proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety measures.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and occupational health issues; prepare incident reports and recommend corrective actions.
• Collaborate with management, employees, contractors, and regulatory agencies to resolve safety concerns and support operational teams.
• Participate in SHEQ committee meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Evaluate effectiveness of health and safety programs and propose enhancements.

Requirements

OCU Group is seeking an experienced SHEQ Advisor to work on projects in Shetland, Scotland. The role focuses on developing, implementing, and overseeing health and safety programs to ensure a safe and healthy work environment, managing compliance, conducting risk assessments, providing training, and promoting a safety culture. It also contributes to continuous improvement in SHEQ performance.

• Possess strong communication, interpersonal, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
• Work independently and as part of a team; proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Hold a NEBOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification (essential).
• Demonstrate strong understanding of UK SHEQ legislation, standards, and best practices.
• Environmental or Quality qualifications, IOSH/IEMA membership are advantageous.
• Hold a valid UK driving licence for travel to work sites.
