The Business Applications Specialist delivers company-wide business solutions by configuring and developing ERP and external software applications, while supporting field-based users across Sales, Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, and other units. This role also manages assigned projects, overseeing development, testing, training, analysis, maintenance, and continual improvement of both in-house and third‑party applications, and mentors system users to ensure effective utilization.
Key duties include serving as the first line of application support, often outside normal business hours, and supporting the release of new, enhanced, or repaired system applications to maximize user adoption through documentation and training. The specialist participates in system implementation projects for new acquisitions, collaborates closely with the IT Development team, corporate departments, regional teams, and branch resources, and assists developers, analysts, and designers in creating new software programs. Maintaining strong relationships with strategic third‑party partners and proactively updating senior leadership on status and issues are also essential.
In the strategy and planning arena, the specialist analyzes existing business systems, drives continuous improvement, and manages the definition, development, and documentation of software business requirements in partnership with internal users. Responsibilities encompass creating project plans, scoping, prioritization, scheduling, and providing project‑management tracking throughout the lifecycle, becoming the expert on tasks needed to achieve expected outcomes.
During acquisition and deployment phases, the specialist assists with business assessments and gap analyses for system migrations, conducts research on software products, coordinates with external vendors to implement new solutions, and manages prioritization and scheduling of software upgrades. They also lead on‑site training for system migration, post‑go‑live support, advanced training, and provide field support during conversion and hyper‑care weeks.
Operational management involves close collaboration with business stakeholders to gather requirements, produce detailed business requirements documents, and translate needs into use cases, process flows, and mock‑ups. The specialist ensures integrations are scalable, accurate, and aligned with e‑commerce, fulfillment, and third‑party systems, works on automating data flows, stays ahead of new features, participates in technical design reviews, and assists end users with usability and help‑desk issues.
The position is based at the nearest Colony branch and follows a typical schedule of 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, with moderate travel between Colony locations, including occasional weekend travel and overtime as needed.
Successful candidates possess at least two years of hands‑on experience with enterprise applications, preferably within Colony, and a solid understanding of ERP workflows, accounting, supply chain, distribution, and warehouse management. Experience with third‑party tools such as Boomi, Avalara, Gains, Descartes, or RFSmart is a plus, along with strong troubleshooting, communication, and Microsoft Office skills. Personal attributes include teamwork, self‑motivation, rapid learning, analytical problem‑solving, high‑pressure prioritization, customer‑service focus, coaching ability, and strategic thinking. A bachelor's degree in Business Management, Computer Science, or Information Systems and three years of related experience are required; SDLC and project‑management certifications are desirable.
