In this vital position you will maintain compliance with water‑quality regulations by following a regulator‑set sampling programme and undertaking additional investigative sampling when required. You will travel extensively between sites, work independently to prepare bottles, gather samples and safely transport them to laboratories, adapting to varied routes, sampling points and weather conditions. As the face of Anglian Water at customer properties and trade sites you will act professionally, answer queries about the sampling process and uphold health‑and‑safety, lone‑working and ISO 17025 quality standards.
We are looking for candidates who hold a full, valid UK manual driving licence and understand the challenges of occupational driving. You must be able to follow procedures, risk assessments and safe‑working systems, meet deadlines without compromising safety or quality, and demonstrate a customer‑focused attitude. Basic IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the willingness to learn new systems are required, as is availability for a standby rota that includes evenings and weekends, and the ability to manually lift up to 25 kg. A scientific A‑Level is desirable but not essential.
Anglian Water is committed to equality, diversity and supporting applicants with disabilities or long‑term conditions throughout the recruitment process. To apply you should submit an up‑to‑date CV (and a cover letter is encouraged) and you will be subject to standard employment checks, including right‑to‑work, references, driving licence and possibly DBS. The company invests in learning and development to help employees reach their full potential and lives by values that build trust, do the right thing and promote environmental and social prosperity.
The role offers a starting salary of £28,000 per annum on a full‑time, permanent basis, working a 6:30 am to 2:30 pm shift in Norfolk covering Kings Lynn, Heacham, Hillington, Swaffham and Fakenham. You will join Anglian Water’s Essential Sampling Team, a group of 120 experts who collect thousands of water samples each year from treatment facilities, recycling centres, reservoirs, rivers, boreholes and customer properties to ensure water safety and protect the environment.
The role provides a high degree of autonomy and the chance to explore the scenic Anglian region in any weather. Benefits include a double‑matched pension scheme up to 6 %, private healthcare, an annual bonus, 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays) that increases with service, and the option to swap Christmas and Easter for religious holidays. You will also receive life cover at 8 × salary, personal accident cover up to 5 × salary, flexible wellbeing benefits, paid sick leave, free parking at all offices, sites and leisure parks, and generous family‑friendly policies such as 26 weeks full‑pay maternity leave and 4 weeks paternity pay.
