Description

The Survey Technician partners with the Professional Land Surveyor on a diverse range of responsibilities to ensure the successful execution of land survey projects. The role requires the preparation of comprehensive survey documents, including detailed maps, plats, and precise boundary descriptions, utilizing industry‑standard software such as AutoCAD, Carlson Survey, and Civil 3D, alongside Microsoft Office Suite. The technician will maintain meticulous records of survey data and field notes, ensuring project documentation is organized and accessible, and will assist with daily field packages and manage field work schedules to optimize team efficiency while working closely with the manager.

• Prepare survey documents according to state and municipal standards and extract required information.
• Write legal descriptions for survey documents independently.
• Conduct land records research and navigate governmental offices and archives.
• Compile deeds and plats into comprehensive deed sketches.
• Assist with staking calculations and apply construction staking principles.
• Prepare field crew packages and point maps for survey teams.
• Escalate potential hazards and unsafe working conditions promptly.
• Maintain strong client relationships to support long‑term partnerships.
• Represent McAdams in the field with professional conduct and appearance.
• Follow Geomatics department guidelines and company standards.
• Promote a safe and respectful work environment by adhering to policies.
• Generate surface models from survey data and interpolate elevations accurately.
• Read and interpret DOT right‑of‑way, site, grading, utility, profile, curve, foundation, and architectural plans.
• Follow directions with accuracy and thoroughness.
• Develop and sustain effective working relationships with managers and peers.

Requirements

• Hold a High School Diploma or GED; BS/associate degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or CAD preferred; NSPS CST Level II certification preferred.
• Possess 2–5 years of surveying experience.
• Apply knowledge of geometry, coordinate geometry, trigonometry, and basic surveying computations.
• Demonstrate strong technical proficiency in AutoCAD, Carlson Survey, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office.
• Communicate effectively and collaborate well with team members.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and pass required motor vehicle, drug, and functional assessments.

Benefits

Work will primarily be outside with varying environmental conditions and involve long‑term standing, frequent walking, and common site hazards. The role requires lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally, as well as standing or walking 8‑12 hours per day.
