Technical Director - Dams and Reservoirs (Water Services)

Description

• Leads and directs others with effective delegation as necessary.
• Drives compliance with Binnies’ quality programme.
• Proactively offers other services to the clients to meet their specific challenges and requirements.
• Assists in mentoring members of the engineering team in managing budgets, efficient delivery, recognising scope change, managing project risks and implementing mitigation measures.
• Provide coaching of client obligations under the Act with senior board members of client organisations
• Supports and actively encourages continuous improvement and change management efforts.
• Consistently provides guidance and direction to others from their project team.
• Ensuring that an adequate Technical, Safety, Environmental and Sustainability review is carried out for each project.
• Ensure recording, monitoring and controlling design changes in order to maximise cost efficiency.
• Establishes and maintains a positive and solution-oriented approach to work, providing open and honest feedback.
• Operates as a technical specialist leader within the consultancy group.
• Agreement of the design cost budget and monitoring performance against the budget and providing forecast costs to completion for individual projects.
• Provides quality management guidance and assistance to project and engineering managers and wider team promoting a culture that is conducive to quality.
• Communicates client interests and drivers to the wider business and contributes to business line strategy.
• Promotes buildability and supply chain efficiency in design outputs.
• Highlights resource and skills gaps and recruitment requirements to department leads.
• Undertake inspections of reservoir assets and produce reports on condition.
• Ensuring our teams satisfy customer requirements with the aim of enhancing the customers’ perception and satisfaction.
• Develops and maintains regular customer contacts for expanding product/service across multiple clients.
• Leading discussions and actions to ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
• Ensuring that company/client standard designs and design practices are utilised wherever possible.
• Directing the delivery of the design stage outputs of each project within the agreed timescale and budget.
• Supervise construction work on reservoir assets, including monitoring construction quality, compliance with specifications and Health & Safety performance.
• Involved in incorporating local resource management into the wider consultancy resource management process.
• Provide technical direction to the team and our clients.
• Involved in the career planning, recognition, learning and development for a team.

Requirements

• Actively uses their skills to build trust and integrity in wider delivery teams and the industry at large.
• Awareness of the tools used to monitor project performance and produce accurate cost and spend profiles such as Earned Value Analysis to enable support for the project management of commissions.
• Holds an industry recognised, chartered professional qualification.
• Is recognised as being a positive role model and technical leader.
• Is seen by clients as an advocate for their organisation and as a trusted technical advisor.
• Extensive client management experience
• Qualified as or significantly advanced towards becoming an All Reservoirs Panel Engineer.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering technology preferred or any other degree, specialised training, or experience, that makes the individual qualified to perform the job responsibilities.
• Knowledge of programme management using Microsoft Project or other suitable software.
• Experienced in building up costs for production of engineering deliverables, predominantly under the NEC suite of contracts.
• Consistently and independently applies specialist knowledge and complies with Binnies’ quality programme relative to assigned tasks.
