Survey Party Chief

The Party Chief is responsible for not only conducting themselves and their work to further Susquehanna Civil’s daily mission to deliver quality infrastructure engineering and support services but also promoting a positive working environment through our core values of integrity, quality, care, and responsiveness. The Party Chief is also responsible for collecting and preparing survey field data at various project sites.

The Party Chief will work collaboratively with the Survey Teams, as well as with other Project Delivery Groups to maximize effectiveness, and, in addition to what has been described above, will be given the responsibility to perform tasks such as indirectly managing Survey Field Technicians; producing and reviewing field data, taking notes and preparing sketches of project sites; mentoring and training less experienced team members; and performing QA/QC checks.

• Review field data as part of the QA process and conduct initial (QC) check prior to submission to office staff.
• Mentor and train less experienced team members.
• Act as point of contact for on-site general public questions or concerns.
• Responsible for all maintenance of supplies, equipment, and vehicles and communicate to their supervisor identified needs on a recurring basis.
• Prepare for field surveys, and act as traffic control. Responsible for safety of crew members, including themselves.
• Collect and prepare field data, take field notes, and prepare sketches of project sites.
• Maintain mileage books and daily reports as required and submit as appropriate.

Ability to exert moderate to heavy amounts of force including lifting, carrying, pulling, and moving objects.

Sufficient manual skill for the operation of a PC keyboard and other standard office equipment.

Ability to perform overnight travel +/- 95% of the time and frequent travel to work survey sites.

Ability to be outside in various extreme terrain or conditions and varying environmental or hazardous settings.

Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

Visually able to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and reading.

• Ability to demonstrate understanding of Bentley Open Roads Designer software.
• Ability to work independently, possess good time management, as well as critical thinking skills.
• Professional License: None (Driver’s License required)
• Demonstrate ability to work with all types of people and personalities in a team setting and act as mediator in conflict situations as applicable.
• Competent data collection and paperwork processing skills and advanced knowledge of data collector operation, and acts as subject matter expert (SME).
• Show proficiency in coordinating field activities for efficient workflow.
• Experience: 5+
• Proficient communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills, and ability to use discretion when dealing with the general public.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, including the ability to interpret technical proposals, a variety of maps, title reports, and legal descriptions.
• Proficiency in mathematical and analytical skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other office software.
• Proficiency in land surveying principles and practices.
• Demonstrate consistency in attendance and punctuality.

The rate of compensation offered for this full-time position will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
