Key responsibilities include independent project management of multiple concurrent mechanical design projects, handling scope, deliverables, CAD output, and budget oversight. The engineer will coordinate with authorities having jurisdiction, communicate with clients, develop designs, and manage construction contract administration for mechanical system upgrades. Additional duties involve conducting feasibility and assessment studies of existing HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire protection and BAS, and working with multidisciplinary teams to formulate short‑ and long‑term recommendations.
General duties involve mentoring junior engineers, supporting process improvement, quality control, and the upkeep of standard specifications, detail libraries and best‑practice design guidelines. The senior engineer also provides experience and leadership across all mechanical scope items for the Professional Services team.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will join the Professional Services team and work independently on HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire protection and Building Automation System upgrade projects. The role requires strong communication and client liaison skills, as well as a technical background to lead tenant fit‑up, commercial retrofit, data‑centre HVAC, decarbonization and design initiatives. Although an individual contributor, the engineer will provide leadership and mentorship to the mechanical engineering team and collaborate with the CAD department to deliver designs.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering (or a relevant diploma) with at least nine years of consulting experience in mechanical design and engineering, and be a Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario. Required expertise includes HVAC, building controls, plumbing and life‑safety systems, knowledge of provincial and national codes (NFPA, ASHRAE, ASME, etc.), and proficiency with MS Office. Strong organizational, analytical, problem‑solving, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to manage competing priorities and travel across North America.
A valid Class G driver’s license and vehicle are required for travel within Ontario, and willingness to travel to other provinces is expected. Additional professional accreditation in other provinces is considered a bonus.
This is a full‑time regular position with a salary range of $82,432 – $103,040 per year, determined by experience, education and performance.
