  • Develop and refine conceptual hydrogeochemical models for mine water and impacted systems
  • Take on high-impact, senior-level work with visible influence on projects and strategy
  • Support Montrose Practice Leads and Technical Leads to review/improve/implement technical standards related to the geochemistry discipline
  • Support permitting, compliance, and stakeholder engagement processes
  • Design and oversee acid rock drainage (ARD), metal leaching (ML), and AMD prediction and control programs
  • Assessing future environmental impacts and developing mitigation strategies for proposed industrial development, including mine site development
  • Act as an expert witness for regulatory and legal proceedings
  • Complete hydrogeochemical investigations of local and regional scale groundwater systems for environmental assessment and remediation, and natural resource/infrastructure development
  • Provide advice to internal and external clients related to application of chemical and isotopic analytical strategies in groundwater and groundwater/surface water interactions for successful project outcomes
  • Lead, develop and inspire junior and intermediate geoscientists
  • Participate in business development with existing and new clients, and maintain client relationships to support repeat business
  • Develop strong internal and external networks to support the awareness of geochemistry within Montrose and externally to our clients
  • Lead geochemical programs for major mining projects, from exploration to closure
  • Develop innovative solutions to geochemistry and hydrogeology-related problems that affect the environment
  • Support and preparing technical proposals, including development of technical scopes and cost estimates for geochemistry programs
  • Identifying opportunities to improve technical execution with respect to the geochemistry discipline
  • Serve as a senior technical advisor to clients and internal teams on mining-related water quality challenges
  • Provide senior technical input, advice and review for multi-disciplinary projects related to geochemistry, hydrogeology, hydrology, chemistry, and mine water
  • Guide closure planning, decommissioning strategies, and environmental mitigation
  • Apply advanced isotopic and geochemical methods for source delineation (e.g., brine, salinity, petroleum)
  • Support strategic planning and business development initiatives to grow Montrose’s mining, green technologies and oil and gas projects
  • Support mine site closure plans and industrial decommissioning strategies
  • Take a leading role in driving and influencing the development and growth of a geochemistry market
  • Create and reinforce a strong health and safety culture through visible leadership to project team members and clients
  • Partner with extensive, long-standing clients such as mining companies, municipal/provincial/federal governments, conservation authorities, academia, and private industry.
  • Develop conceptual hydrogeochemical models to support interpretation and performing modelling of chemical data, and integration with other groundwater studies, including hydrogeological modelling
  • Work with top mining clients across Canada and internationally — from major base and precious metal producers, lithium producers, to green tech developers
  • Integrate geochemical and hydrogeological data to assess contaminant mobility and risk
  • Review and contribute to high-quality technical reporting and regulatory documentation

  • Mine water geochemistry and modeling (PHREEQC, AquaChem, GoldSIM, Geochemist’s Workbench)
  • Familiarity with data tools such as EQuIS, Excel macros, Access databases, or GIS platforms
  • Ability to manage clients, deliver quality work, and grow internal capacity
  • Excellent leadership, mentorship, and communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian environmental and mining regulatory frameworks
  • Eligible for professional registration (e.g., PGO, APEGA, EGBC); multi-provincial registration is a plus
  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Geochemistry, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, or related field
  • Experience in integrating geochemistry with hydrogeological or geomechanical models
  • Acid-base accounting, ARD/AMD prediction and management
  • 20+ years of applied geochemistry experience, with a strong focus on the mining sector
  • Expert witness experience in mining or contaminated site matters
