The Director of Technology Applications is responsible for both daily and strategic leadership of information technology services, including enterprise software, applications development, support, and maintenance. This role applies new and emerging technologies to solve business challenges and serves as a strategic partner to leaders across Ryan Companies' business units, such as Construction and Field Operations.
Key responsibilities include forging strategic partnerships with business leaders to conduct ongoing needs analysis, defining and prioritizing IT solutions, and fostering innovation by evaluating technology initiatives for cost effectiveness, service quality, and business development. The director manages incident and problem support for the application portfolio, leads a team of full‑time and contractor resources, defines project costs and ROI, assesses investment risks, and oversees vendor relationships and contract negotiations. Additional duties involve establishing departmental goals and procedures, assisting internal clients with work planning, executing root‑cause analysis, planning resource loads, coordinating cross‑system implementations, and improving inefficient processes while ensuring reliable application services.
The ideal candidate will have construction experience (preferred), be a strategic thinker, and possess strong people‑management skills, including goal setting, performance management, coaching, and recognition. A solid grasp of the Solution Delivery Lifecycle, Agile, DevOps, and other delivery methodologies is required, along with a background in software development, infrastructure, or security. Excellent oral and written communication abilities, the capacity to translate complex technical concepts, and the ability to motivate teams in a collaborative, lean environment are essential.
A bachelor’s degree in information science or business administration is required, along with a minimum of five years in a leadership role and proven management experience in a corporate setting. Candidates should have a track record of successful cross‑functional system implementations, business analysis, requirements documentation, and operating within matrix organizations. Experience with budgeting, vendor management, and strong analytical and problem‑solving skills is also necessary.
Ryan’s core competencies emphasize building trusting relationships, teamwork, impact management, customer centricity, resilience, execution, results orientation, strategic thinking, ambiguity navigation, problem solving, change leadership, courage, direction, talent development, empathy, self‑awareness, and an inclusive mindset.
Compensation includes a base salary range of $142,500‑$213,700 annually, with potential commission or incentive programs. Benefits cover medical, dental, vision, retirement, flexible spending, life insurance, disability, educational assistance, paid time off, employee assistance, wellness programs, parenting benefits, discounts, pet insurance, charitable matching, and volunteer time.
