The Building Operator role is based at the Royal Bank Plaza in downtown Toronto and supports the TRDC Data Centre. The incumbent provides critical technical services, maintains uptime for all essential systems, and ensures smooth operation of the control centre, UPS, BAS, mechanical plant, water treatment, fire alarm, electrical, and EPGS platforms.
Daily duties include monitoring system performance, conducting inspections and rounds, recording data, and following standard operating and emergency procedures. The operator must adjust temperature setpoints, switch cooling modes, perform monthly EPGS testing, and use the building automation system to optimise energy efficiency. Additionally, work orders are managed in Yardi to maintain accurate records.
The position requires a rotating 42‑hour shift schedule that includes daytime, nighttime, and weekend rotations, with occasional overtime for critical activities. Operators are expected to be alert at all times, provide immediate response to incidents, and support colleagues by covering shifts when needed. Collaboration with base‑building staff and clear communication via email, Word, and Excel are essential.
Candidates need a minimum of five years of experience as an electrician or HVAC technician, preferably in a data‑centre environment, and a BES 1&2 or 4th Class Power Engineer certificate. Strong troubleshooting abilities, a proactive mindset, and excellent customer‑service skills are required. The ability to read blueprints, understand single‑line diagrams, and multitask under time‑sensitive conditions is also essential.
