Investment Accounting Manager

Description

• Documents accounting policies and procedures.
• Assists with external auditors and consultants on various audits and tax return preparation. Manages the preparation of supporting documentation to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
• Documents, evaluates accounting treatment with VP, and oversees recording of complex investment activity/transactions in all stages of the investment cycle from acquisition to liquidation.
• Prepares ad hoc analysis to assist in budget variance investigation and forecasting.
• Reviews team’s work product to ensure quality output is published in accordance with the assigned deadlines.
• Documents the accounting analysis and concluded treatment for significant transactions.
• Ensures that balance sheet accounts in areas of responsibility are appropriately reconciled with appropriate supporting documentation and that reconciling items are cleared promptly for areas of responsibility.
• Coordinates, reviews, and distributes financial reporting for senior management.
• Reads, analyzes, and comprehends Accounting Standards Updates. Summarizes, updates, and implements policies for new GAAP literature, disclosure requirements, or changes to reporting requirements.
• Assists in the research of complex and subjective accounting/regulatory issues.
• Reviews the financial reporting packages to ensure compliance with internal and external requirements, ensures reconciling items and unusual transactions are analyzed and either explained, corrected, and/or cleared promptly.
• Oversees timely reconciliation and settlement of intercompany activity/balances.
• Collaborates with other accounting team members to establish/modify procedures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the month, quarter, and year-end closing and reporting cycles.
• Prepares quarterly and annual debt covenant calculations.
• Evaluates implications of legal documents as they pertain to significant accounting transactions.
• Provides oversight of the books and records for various entities, including the preparation of complete financial statements, inclusive of footnotes, for a sub-consolidation audit, as well as for operating entities and holding companies.

Requirements

• Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and industry professionals.
• Knowledge of Registered Investment Advisor roles/responsibilities and Limited Partner communication/reporting requirements.
• 1-3 years leadership experience Preferred
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Preferred
• Ability and flexibility to effectively function and multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced setting.
• Bachelor's Degree degree in accounting Required
• May have exposure to oversight of enterprise-wide data integrity monitoring and measurement.
• Strong knowledge of financial statement preparation, including footnote preparation, GAAP, and internal control policies and procedures required.
• Must demonstrate strong attention to detail and knowledge of accounting practices and procedures.
• Public accounting background Preferred
• Strong working knowledge of ERP financial systems and proficiency with the MS Office suite, including advanced skills in MS Excel.
• Demonstrated strong relationship management skills with internal clients (e.g., asset management, senior/executive management, peers, and colleagues); proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches.
• Ability to define problems and organize efficient solutions, analyze data, and draw valid conclusions.
• Knowledge of fair value, investment company guide, revenue recognition, and leasing accounting standards.
• Demonstrated ability to research, interpret, and communicate a variety of technical accounting issues.
• Minimum five to seven years of investment accounting and reporting experience Required and
• Ability to prioritize for self and others, strong organizational skills.
• Management ability to direct, guide, motivate, and develop staff.
