Nationwide engineering firm specializing in relay testing, commissioning, and equipment testing
Conduct commissioning, testing, maintenance, and repair of complex protective relaying schemes across generation, transmission, and distribution substation environments. Operate various electrical test equipment, including Omicron, Doble, and Vanguard, and apply intermediate to strong proficiency with interfacing software such as Test Universe, Protection Suite, AcSELerator, and Wireshark. Facilitate retrofit, upgrade, and replacement projects for electrical controls, SCADA, DCS, and power system protection equipment.
Perform comprehensive testing of over‑current, voltage, directional, distance, impedance, sync check, loss‑of‑field, reverse power, and multifunction relays, as well as function testing of substation control circuits, isolation, setpoint, advanced logic, and scheme testing like reclosing and breaker failure. Execute end‑to‑end relay testing using Doble Protection Suite, RTS, or Test Universe to verify communication‑assisted protection schemes. Install, commission, test, and maintain protective relaying equipment, DFR devices, SCADA systems, distribution automation, and associated communication equipment, while developing standard procedures and generating customer reports detailing problems and corrective actions. Represent the company professionally in all interactions with vendors, customers, and service providers.
Require a minimum of five years of field experience in commissioning, panel checkout, relay calibration, testing, and repair of substation relaying and control schemes. Desirable background includes substation commissioning, SCADA/fault data/SER/integration‑automation equipment installation and testing, as well as a solid understanding of protocols like DNP3, Modbus, and IEC 8979 and the ability to troubleshoot SCADA issues with tools such as Wireshark and ASE 2000. Candidates must possess experience with three‑phase power systems, power system protection, and control schemes, strong interpersonal and communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, a valid driver’s license with a good driving record, and the ability to distinguish color coding of wires, fiber optics, and related materials.
