Senior Transit Design Architect

Lead senior architect for Ontario transit projects, overseeing BIM design of rail stations and related facilities.
Manage projects from design through to construction with the ability to support Risk Management, constructability reviews and design change process.
Ensure design meets operational, safety, accessibility and customer experience objectives while reflecting architectural excellence
Oversee development with hands on involvement in detailed architectural documentation suitable for procurement and construction.
Review subcontractor submittals for technical accuracy and compliance with specifications and contract agreements.
Ensure compliance with building codes, transit design guidelines (where applicable), safety standards and promote sustainability across all projects (LEED, Envision, etc.)
Develop project specifications to supplement architectural drawings.
Independently prepare and/or review concept, optioneering analysis, preliminary and detailed designs in a 3D environment, working drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
Provide technical expertise in the development or review of policies and procedures related to architectural structures and systems and construction/safety codes by engaging with transit authorities, government agencies, community representatives and other stakeholders to align design with operational needs, regulatory requirements and public expectations.
Oversee the architectural scope, schedule and deliverables throughout all project phases
Lead the overall architectural vision, design direction, and/or review engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents to ensure compliance with government codes, laws, and regulations.
Represent the project in design presentations, public forums and client meetings.
Direct and review work of in-house and external design teams, ensuring consistency with project goals and standards.
Integrate urban design principles, wayfinding strategies and placemaking elements into all elements of building design.
Lead multi-disciplinary reviews and coordination within a 3D environment with structural, MEP, civil, landscape and specialty consultants to ensure integrated design documentation meets project and client standards.

Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal (French is considered an asset).
Strong graphic presentation skills and ability to present concepts to clients and project teams.
Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, building energy conservation, and barrier-free design requirements.
Strong knowledge of station planning, passenger flows and integration with complex engineering.
Highly motivated with strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
Advanced skills in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
15–20 years of experience in architectural modeling and detailing, with proven experience in large and complex BIM project delivery.
Experience with MicroStation and Navisworks is considered an asset.
Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally.
Design experience with transportation/transit facility design, rail subway design, bus terminals, airports, social infrastructure (education and healthcare – growth areas)
Bachelor’s degree in architecture.
Must be licensed to practice architecture in Ontario (other provinces are a benefit).
Expert-level proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD
Demonstrated experience in a leadership role with Metrolinx and/or Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) large scale transit projects.
