Element is seeking a Head of Calibration who will report to the Division Director and oversee all business operations and processes within the unit. The position is responsible for all Element business operations and processes within the business unit.
The role includes ensuring compliance with health, safety, environment, and quality policies, managing the laboratory’s profit and loss, delivering results aligned with forecasts, and satisfying customers’ technical, quality, and delivery requirements. These duties ensure the laboratory meets both financial and customer expectations.
Strategic duties involve formulating and executing growth plans—primarily organic growth—while developing technical services for the environmental chemistry sector. This focus supports the company's aim to become the world’s most trusted testing partner.
The Head of Calibration will drive sales and commercial strategy by maintaining client relationships, setting sales targets, leading major proposals, and ensuring contracts meet technical and legal standards. The role also ensures contract reviews minimize legal risk.
Leadership responsibilities include building a high‑performing team, fostering a ‘can‑do’ culture, providing regular feedback, and ensuring staff are trained, engaged, and productive. Regular communication and feedback are provided to maintain standards and values.
Monthly reporting on lab P&L and KPIs, adherence to Element’s quality and SHE systems, hazard identification, and daily health‑and‑safety monitoring are required. Hazard identification and risk assessments are conducted within the area of responsibility.
The incumbent will provide technical expertise, plan daily operations to meet customer timelines, train personnel, achieve budgeted targets, ensure 100 % customer satisfaction, stay current with industry developments, and coordinate across departments. Timely reporting on activities and future business outlook is also required.
Responsibilities also include employee retention, conducting team meetings, defining training plans, acting as liaison between staff and the company, and handling recruitment, performance appraisal, and conflict resolution. Supervisory duties follow organizational policies and applicable laws.
Continuous improvement is essential, with a focus on enhancing skills, processes, and key performance indicators through a management toolbox. KPIs are used to track progress and drive performance improvements.
Candidates need a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, 5–8 years of experience in quality or calibration laboratory management, knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025, and strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills; experience with calibration software, LIMS, budgeting, and aerospace quality is advantageous. Proficiency in calibration software, LIMS, and financial planning is essential.
