Regularly works in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and humidity. Frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. Performs a variety of manual construction tasks involving roads, highways and heavy construction projects under the direction of a crew foreman.

  • Sawing lumber, dismantling forms, removing projections from concrete, and mounting pipe hangers.
  • Regularly use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; reach and grasp.
  • Regularly twist, bend, stoop, kneel and crouch to perform duties
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
  • Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy/highway construction projects
  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials
  • Hands on – efficiently operate heavy equipment that applies to grading.
  • Coordinate with others including subcontractors, trucking and plant managers.
  • Measuring and finishing grade stakes, pipe laying, drives stakes, and stretches tight line.
  • Tends pumps, compressors, or generators
  • Climb intermittently
  • Supervise and train crew members
  • Load, unload, or distribute materials, machinery, or tools to and from designated locations
  • Maintain clean work area by disposing of trash and debris properly.
  • Assist craft workers, such as carpenters, ironworkers, plasterers and masons
  • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth
  • May be called upon to operate a variety of power and hand tools: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, mechanical hoists, surveying, measuring and other equipment
  • Promote and adhere to the company’s safety program.
  • Measure, mark, or record openings or distances as part of site preparation
  • Use picks, shovels, and rakes to level earth or asphalt to rough and fine grade specifications/elevations
  • Regularly push/pull objects
  • Mixes concrete apply caulking, as needed.

  • Must have reliable transportation, and ability to travel to assigned worksites
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public

  • Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary
  • Able to communicate effectively with jobsite supervisor and co-workers
  • Ability to listen, follow directions, and have a willingness to continue to enhance skills
  • Knowledge of utilizing power tools: Bolts, nails, aligns, and block up under forms.
  • Ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment such as hand tools, power tools and motorized equipment.
  • Constant physical effort, including extended standing for at least 8 hour shift
  • Active Driver’s license
  • Two (2) years’ experience working as a Grade Laborer, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent hand, eye and foot coordination.
  • Able to hear and respond to oral instructions in a noisy environment.
  • Repetitively lift and carry at least 75 pounds on a regular basis, and sometimes heavier weight.
  • Two (2) years’ experience grading experience
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Able to multi-task and working under short time constraints
  • Intermittent sitting; continuous walking on construction site.
  • General knowledge of road construction processes.
  • Agility, balance, and manual dexterity, as well as arm-hand steadiness
